World Children’s Day Celebrates and Champions Children’s Rights

World Children’s Day is a yearly observance that highlights and celebrates children’s rights for all children worldwide. This article will explain why it is so important to celebrate World Children’s Day and ways that you can support children’s rights in your own community.

Significance of World Children’s Day

According to the United Nations (UN): “World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children’s Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare.”

On November 20, 1959, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. On the same date in 1989, the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Both the Declaration and the Convention are crucial in protecting children’s rights and building a better world for all children.

Why are Children’s Rights Important?

Children’s rights are important because they allow for children to achieve their greatest potential as individuals. These rights ensure that children are healthy, safe, and supported as they grow and develop.

Examples of children’s rights include:

All children deserve basic human rights in order to survive and succeed in life, and these rights are supported by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) states: “All SDGs are important for children’s rights and well-being, and a children’s right approach calls for leaving no child behind and reaching those furthest behind first.” In doing so, we can ensure that all children have the opportunity to accomplish great things.

No Limit International Initiatives

No Limit International has supported children’s rights through various initiatives in alignment with its mission and goals. Through its advocacy and outreach, the non-government organization (NGO) has impacted the lives of thousands of children, inspiring them to embrace and fight for their rights.

No Limit International has donated books, tablets, and laptops to various primary schools in Cameroon. These educational supplies have helped thousands of children develop their literacy and digital skills, both of which are crucial to youth development.

When it comes to children’s rights to education, No Limit International focuses on advocacy and service for children, helping every child possible gain the resources and knowledge needed to succeed. One of No Limit International’s Co-Founders, Orlybella Tantchou, particularly specializes in children’s rights to education, with her passion driving her activism and outreach.

From releasing a song supporting Ukrainian children and their right to go to school to collecting books for children in Sub-Saharan Africa, Orlybella strives to be a voice for children who may not have one. In doing so, she hopes to bring positive change to the world and create a lasting impact in the lives of the children she serves.

How to Support Children’s Rights in Your Community

Everyone has the power to make a difference. The power of children’s rights is priceless, which is why we must be an active part of protecting and supporting children’s rights for as many children as possible.

Here are some ways that you can support children’s rights in your own community:

  • Advocate for children’s rights in your community. Spread awareness on the need for children’s rights around the world and be an active part of the movement by educating others.
  • Volunteer. Support children’s rights initiatives through volunteer work, community service, outreach, etc.
  • Donate money, educational resources, and other supplies. Many organizations can use these resources to support children’s rights, educate others on children’s rights, and spread the movement.
  • Sponsor a child. Sponsorships can help remove children from environments that endanger their health and well-being. By contributing financially to a child’s life, you make it possible for them to receive the proper resources and support needed to succeed.
