July 15 is World Youth Skills Day! During this special occasion (and year round), non-government organization (NGO) No Limit International is dedicated to promoting youth development and empowering the youth to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Why is World Youth Skills Day Important?

World Youth Skills Day is important because it celebrates youth worldwide and emphasizes the importance of necessary life skills for young people. According to UNICEF and the Education Commission, only around 1 in 4 young people worldwide are on track to acquire valuable skills needed for employment. In addition, youth from low-income countries are “the least likely to have the skills required to thrive, particularly in future employment opportunities, decent work, and entrepreneurship.” With the help of World Youth Skills Day, we can work to change these statistics, ensuring that all young people have a chance to succeed.

This World Youth Skills Day, the theme is “Youth Skills for Peace and Development,” which focuses on the role of young people in peacebuilding and conflict resolution around the world. It is especially important this World Youth Skills Day to advocate for youth skills and to recognize the potential that young people have to be agents of peace in the world. This way, we can actively contribute to a more peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable future.

No Limit International’s Youth Development Initiatives

No Limit International organizes numerous youth development programs that help young people to develop lifelong skills, which enhances their overall fitness, social, emotional, and intellectual abilities. These programs include:

• After school programs (academic support, mentoring initiatives, book clubs)
• Water safety/swimming education programs
• Nutrition education programs

No Limit International’s youth development programs help the youth to navigate adolescence in healthy ways and empower them with a sense of usefulness and responsibility while defining clear and attainable goals at various developmental stages.

Another way that the non-government organization has promoted youth development is through its donations to various youth development efforts. For example, as part of its partnership with the Cameroon Swimming and Rescue Federation (FECANAS), No Limit International donated life-saving swimming equipment to young swimmers during the 2022–2023 swimming season. This contribution to the swimming federation aimed to promote swimming as a life-saving skill as well as an Olympic sport.

No Limit International has also visited several primary schools in Yaoundé, Cameroon, where the organization distributed books, laptops, and tablets to young students in an effort to bridge the literacy gap and digital divide. With the rise of e-learning and the increased use of digital platforms, the need to equip students with educational technology is especially crucial nowadays and essential to their lifelong development.

No Limit International’s Female Empowerment and Education Initiatives

Female empowerment is crucial to youth development as well as advancing gender equality. No Limit International has supported female youth development by leading various female empowerment initiatives, including workshops and leadership camps. Through these, young women and girls are equipped with skills necessary for the future of their professional careers.

The non-government organization also emphasizes the importance of female education, as access to education gives girls additional opportunities to learn the skills they need to be successful in their communities. Through community awareness campaigns and the like, No Limit International makes it more possible for young girls to obtain economic independence, better career prospects, and a future where they are empowered to make a difference in the world around them.
