Youth Development Programs provide young people with opportunities to build practical skills, strengthen their education, and gain exposure to learning experiences that support their overall development. They help youth grow in confidence and responsibility while preparing them for future academic, personal, and economic opportunities.
The Wildlife Warriors: Saving Their Habitats, written by our co-founder Orlyola Tantchou, is used as a storytelling tool to introduce children to climate change in an engaging and age-appropriate way. Through interactive environmental activities and hands-on learning experiences, youth are engaged in practical and enjoyable ways that make climate science more accessible and relatable. Climate awareness is strengthened by connecting storytelling with real-world environmental examples that help children understand how climate change impacts their communities and daily lives. These experiences also build environmental leadership by empowering youth to see themselves as active stewards of the planet and future drivers of sustainable change.
A free mobile library brings books directly to children and youth in rural and underserved communities, helping to remove barriers to literacy and learning. By providing regular access to age-appropriate reading materials, the program supports school learning, improves reading skills, and encourages consistent reading habits. The collection includes books in both English and French, enabling francophone children to strengthen their literacy while also developing English language skills. This initiative also fosters curiosity and a love for learning by exposing children to stories, knowledge, and ideas they may not otherwise have access to, strengthening foundational literacy and expanding educational opportunity regardless of location.
Digital inclusion is supported through the donation of laptops and educational technology to schools and learning centers with limited resources. These devices help bridge the digital divide by giving students and teachers access to tools that enhance learning, improve classroom instruction, and expand exposure to modern educational content. By integrating technology into everyday learning, students develop essential digital literacy skills needed for academic success and future employment. The initiative also supports teachers in delivering more interactive lessons, helping prepare youth for a technology-driven world and broader economic opportunities.
Cameroon’s youth unemployment remains a pressing challenge, with rates significantly higher than the national average and limited access to stable work opportunities for young people. In response, we run an aquaculture (fish farming) training program designed to provide a sustainable livelihood pathway for youth and unemployed individuals. Through hands-on practical training and ongoing support, participants learn how to establish, manage, and grow their own fish farms, gaining skills that can lead to long-term self-employment. Many young people have already shown strong interest and are steadily building the knowledge needed to increase food production and improve their living standards. By equipping youth with these practical skills, the program helps reduce unemployment while also contributing to greater food security and poverty alleviation in their communities.
