No Limit International Promotes Female Empowerment By Organizing a Female Leadership Camp

From July 27 to July 28, 2022, No Limit International organized a 2-day female leadership camp in Yaoundé, Cameroon under the leadership of No Limit International Co-Founder Orlyanka Tantchou. The theme of the camp was “Build Self-Confidence to Find Your Voice and Be a Leader.”

Over fifty girls currently attending high school in Yaoundé participated in the leadership camp with enthusiasm and dedication. The camp was an opportunity for the girls to meet, greet, connect, make new friends, and—most importantly—gain skills that are essential in leadership, especially female leadership.

“The purpose of the camp is to encourage girls to find their voices and speak up on issues that matter to them,” Orlyanka said. “We want them to come and share their stories but at the same time learn and grow with each other and gain leadership skills that are essential for their future career goals and aspirations. We opted for the choice of girls because female leadership is underrepresented around the world; meanwhile female leadership is very important because girls are just as capable as men, and they should have the same opportunities.”

Camp Overview and Impact

For 2 days, the girls learned the value of self-discovery and using creative thinking and talents to express themselves. Several topics were addressed during the camp, such as:

  • Self-confidence building skills
  • Creative thinking
  • Female role models
  • Female economic empowerment

7 girls presented amazing projects ranging from artistic imagination to innovative solutions to local challenges. Through their creative projects, these girls showed enormous potential to pursue STEM fields in the future.

“I really encourage the girls to consider STEM career opportunities because it’s one of the fastest growing occupations and in demand jobs right now but with low percentage of female representation,” Orlyanka stated. The girls were presented with videos of female leaders and their styles of leadership to emphasize the importance of female role models in shaping a better future for them.

“I have learned from the camp that being a girl is not a fatality. Actually, she is an important asset for her county and the world at large,” stated Achu Fanita Fanniel, camp participant and presenter of a STEM project. She designed and fabricated a light bulb shell connected to an electric circuit that supplies energy to it. “I used empty containers of butter to produce the shell. It was an idea that came to me during the camp. I wanted to use recycled materials to produce energy” explained Achu of her project.

Another participant with a creative STEM project, Nga Bilegue Therese, corroborated: “We were taught that there is no trade reserved for boys and that we must be bold and brave enough to seek every opportunity that comes along.” By encouraging the young future leaders, Orlyanka Tantchou enjoined them to keep fighting for their role and place in society.

At the end of the 2-day female leadership camp, the non-government organization handed out certificates of participation to the participants, which would be helpful in building their curriculum vitae. As Orlyanka best put it: “The camp is over, but No Limit International will continue to monitor and mentor the next generation of female leaders.”

No Limit International was featured Le Messager for its efforts in both female leadership and female empowerment. Read the full newspaper article below:
